Back!

It's been ages since I posted something. I could serve the "I took some more time off than I should have" excuse but thay's plainly not true so I'll stick to the true "I was too busy working on the photos I took over the holidays and then I took some more photos" excuse.

The trip was simply... very eventful: a sunstroke, repeated sunburns, jellyfish on the shore, a fraud hotel case, a wasp invasion, many bad breakfast choices etc., which all contributed to a spicier vacation. However, none of the above can overshadow the fact that we witnessed the magic of some 50 Caretta-Caretta turtles hatching before our eyes, the awesome beaches that we had come across, the beautiful locations we've seen, the crazy stories that we will laugh with for a long time, and of course I am personally very enthused because I managed to capture some pretty cool shots with my G9, which once again, proved to be an amazing amazing camera. More pictures, apart from the random ones below, coming soon here and over at my website.

We tried to jump... someone was getting the countdown all wrong...

Pause

After many hectic weeks, a series of unfortunate occurrences, a lost debit card, an unresolved issue with a wrong card PIN, and before an inevitably full schedule, I am finally going on holidays. Will be back on the 14th, hopefully with some new photos (Canon G9 on the loose!) from Peloponnese-Greece. Sea, sun, sand, and fun.

The Lovely Bones Trailer

Peter Jackson (yeah the Lord of the Rings guy) and Steven Spielberg introduce "The Lovely Bones". Based on the novel by Alice Sebold, in which a young girl who's been murdered watches over her family trying to figure out the puzzle towards the solution of her murder. A very interesting aspect of a murder, delivered in an even more interesting way, visually, from what it seems... Out, December 09.

Fontplore: The Future Of Font Searching

How much does this thing cost, and can I have one now? I bet it's a much more reliable search device than the "What The Font" iPhone App (not that I don't love the iPhone App). More info here. Via

City Of Melbourne New Logo

Australia is known for its good EVERYTHING. Honestly, I'm not sure if I've seen anything descending from Australia that's not solidly good. Great actors (too many to mention), awesome music (Empire Of The Sun, Midnight Juggernauts, Kylie, etc.), good fashion, good-looking/ exceptionally stylish people, and inevitably awesome design. Which is today's Australian eye-candy.

For all the reasons aforementioned and the fact that I have a fair amount of relatives there, I've been wanting to visit Australia for quite some time now. I think it's time I started planning my trip... to Melbourne.

The City of Melbourne recently launched its new ($A240,000) identity, which was developed by Landor Associates, igniting a storm of comments about the logo itself, but also about the price of the "fat blocky M". I personally adore the new logo, being the gradient addict I am. The color scheme is spectacular, while the fragmenting shadows and gradients are obviously there to deliver the multiple faces and aspects of Melbourne, or so I guess. I also love the use of the slightly condensed, bold sans serif font. Update: The font used is "Flagellini" and I'm vainly trying to find it. (And yes, the overall look is vaguely reminiscent of Batman's Gotham City, and I'm not bothered by it at all...)

The video below is amazing too...
Now if I could only find cheaper tickets to Australia...

Ghostly Discovery App

The Ghostly Discovery App is a free application for the iPhone/iPod Touch which basically does what its name says: it helps you discover music off the Ghostly artist catalogue according to your mood. I'm in for some awesome music discoveries. via
