Day One

Day One kinda caught my eye the first time I saw it in the app store. It essentially is an app which helps you log stuff in a journal, with specific date and timestamps. However, I wasn't quite sold on the idea of bying an app which would do what I would be able to do by logging stuff in a note and saving that between my Mac and iPhone. After some contemplating I decided to get both the Mac ($9.99) and the iPhone apps ($1.99) which sync seamlessly via Dropbox (and with the arrival of Apple's iCloud I am almost certain they'll integrate that somewhere in there too).

I am using Day One quite a lot these past few days and it's just great how amazingly it does what it says it's designed to do. Actually, I don't necessarily use it to record what happens throughout my day -I'm not sure I'd want to see all that in the future- I use if to document the unexpected flashes of inspiration, ideas, images popping in my head and sparks of thoughts that could lead to something. The thing is; I usually get all the above when I'm in the car and I either have to pull over and write it in or try to type it while driving (not recommended). There's password protection for both apps and adding bits to the journal flow is easy and it sort of gives me that feeling that I am actually vaulting all these thoughts there to use them when the time comes, and it looks good too! So, those $12, were well-spent after all...

Phonofone III

In the next few months don't wonder why many posts will be about interiors, furniture, objects and things that define the character and feel of a space. Consider it a part of my research for stuff I would ideally want to have in my new working/living space, the one I am planning to set up in a couple of months.

So, this awesome sound amplifier is a handmade ceramic beauty which multiplies the (mono) sound of the iPhone by 4 times. Science & Sons has a whole series of these ceramic, very eco friendly (since they run on pure nothingness), sound amplifiers. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get one of these right away since they go for approximately $190/€145, but given that they're handmade and ceramic kinda justifies the price.

Two Amazing Websites/Apps

I have been using Dropbox for some time now; installed the Mac App and the iPhone App and I just use it on a dily basis for exchanging files with friends, links with myself, uploading stuff for others to download, and storing files to be accessed from everywhere. It's like an online "flash drive" accessible from everywhere as long as you have an internet connection. The free version gives users a good 2GB of free space, while you can purchase more space from the Dropbox website. Apps are available for iPhone, iPad, Android and Blackberry phones.

Read It Later is probably my favorite thing these days, I'd say it's as awesome as the invention of the command-Z feature. It was brought to my attention via the official Twitter app for the iPhone where there's an option for saving links off of tweets to a list to be read later. When I registered for an account I noticed that you can use it with while browsing (by installing a third-party extension to your browser) and it's like the best thing since sliced bread! Really it's like building your reading list with just a few clicks. I haven't used the iPhone app that much, mainly because I find it sort of tedious reading off websites on the iPhone, but the mobile app has an awesome feature, that of saving the articles for offline reading.

Photos From NothingLand

Despite the fact that today was, by far, the most invalid day I've had in years, and despite the fact that the thought of having one of these days again in the next months is creeping me out, I am happy I got to snap a couple of things which can be used. I only had my iPhone with me, given that I couldn't be carrying my Canon around in the army.

However, today, I was also reminded of the creativity/inspiration blasts I had when I was in the army, especially after a rough couple of days. Let's hope today triggers a productive epiphany in the following days.

iPad vs Netbook

Awesome thought by Alberto Antoniazzi

“Why did they made a bigger iPhone when they just had to do a smaller Macbook?”

PhoneBook

The nephew would just love this! (right before trying to rip my iPhone out of the book)

I can't say much about this great concept, given that these guys' website is all in japanese... but I'd like to know a tad more.

Men's Health iPhone App

I always thought that Men'sHealth had the best and, probably, one of the nearly most accurate taglines: "100% Useful". I receive their daily "Eat this, Not that" emails with awesome nutrition tips and in one of these emails I found a mini-ad for their iPhone App (Available at the iTunes Store for $1.99).

I used it for a workout today instead for my regular "muscle confusion" routine, and I can say that it's working awesomely. Plus, I think I needed a change in my workout routine... now I have many many many workout options to choose from. There's also the option of buying Expansion Packs if I ever get tired of these (many) workouts and exercises that come with the App.
