Lindsay Lohan + Richard Phillips

Despite her stunts as a drunken/disrespectful/screwed-up childhood-star-went-bad, I truly do believe that Lindsay Lohan is a well-above-skilled actress and one of the most striking faces of her silver screen generation.

Lindsay Lohan, like every "misunderstood" and controversial star of the past, has a fair amount of avant garde followers as well. One of them is Richard Phillips, who decided to feature Lohan's face in his 90-second video (co-directed by videographer Taylor Steele) which will air at the Venice Biennale as a part of "Commercial Break". I personally like love the resulting imagery.

Let's hope that this will mark a great start to Lohan's career reboot. Am I the only one getting an Avedon-Monroe vibe out of all this?

United Nude: RoboCop Would Be So Proud!

Moon Life in collaboration with United Nude created these walk-on-the-surface-of-the-moon high heels consisting of carbon fibre, leather and wire elements.

I will dare to say that I do find these to be very interesting, (and now everyone jumps to lynch me). However, the contrast between the chunkiness of the frame and the flimsiness of the wire (which will essentially be holding the whole thing on the feet) gives me a sense of uncertainty. Then again, I'm, obviously, not the high heel type so I wouldn't know; then again, I did take advanced physics in high-school.

The shoes will ship (this summer) in a flat-form package and will be put together (IKEA style, I guess) by the buyer.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

I will not get into detail on this Alexander McQueen show currently running at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The fact that this is happening is old-news actually.

I chose to post about this (now) because I was blown away after seeing the pictures of the show, the promotional studio photography of the Selected Objects by Sølve Sundsbø, and the amazing blog the people of the Met set-up for the show. In the Selected Objects section, each piece is presented with an accompanying (many times accurately prophetic) quote from McQueen's interviews over the years.

Also, back to the photography; Sundsbø, or whoever came up with the mannequin concept should be given an award! It couldn't be more eerily appropriate, and perfectly fitting to McQueen's body of work! Giving kudos is clearly something I'm not entitled to do, so I'll just humbly bow.

Oh! By The Way

With everything going on, this and that and the other thing, I totally forgot to "celebrag" about MemRants turning two about a month ago!

Despite the fact that I am sort of slug-posting lately, I have not ceased to love the whole blogging process. I was thinking of how great it feels when a good post is composed, and the satisfaction of hitting "Save & Close" in Squarespace's post editor this morning and it hit me, one month later.

So, happy 2Y+1month: The online scrapbook continues!

Olly Moss : Paper Cuts

Paper Cuts is british illustrator/designer Olly Moss's latest show, which opened on May 7th, 2011, and will run for the next two weeks at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles.

The show consists of approximately 350 pieces of cut-out silhouettes of the artist's favorite pop culture icons over the years. Excruciatingly detailed cut-outs of Kermit the frog, Bruce Willis in Die Hard, the gang from Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs and the Simpsons are some of the characters featured in the show.

I am posting this not only because I would love to see the show, but because I am wondering how come he's allowed to sell the pieces, since they're so directly based on someone else's work. I am asking this out of genuine curiosity and interest, and not to accuse Mr Moss of anything. I've also started working on a series of posters based on some of my favorite relics from the past (and was trying to figure out how to and if I am allowed to sell them) and when I saw this I just had to know. (Anyone?)

Electro Rush: Tareq Souleiman

Photo: Nikos Katsaros

I stumbled on Tareq Souleiman on twitter, I can't even remember how, but I'm happy I did nevertheless. Tareq is a half Jordanian, half Greek musician born and raised in Thessaloniki and, now, based in Athens.

I was always a fan of the Greek Electronica scene, (two of my favorite electro albums are the obscure Universal releases: Greek Electro & Greek Electro 2). I think Tareq's body of work is such an awesome addition to the Greek Electro scene, if not exactly what was missing from it. In addition to his own great pieces, he also produces crisp atmospheric remixes for Casey Spooner and Marsheaux, to name the two that fascinated me the most.

Cocoon is his first solo album, in one of the top slots on my wishlist, containing a great deal of collaborations, but Cold (video below) and Feel Me with Natassa Bofiliou (a very pleasant surprise) are my favorites this period.

Do You Talk Brand?

I won't say much, though I am itching and squirming to do so. IPWT is working on a pair of soft launches in the next few weeks, one of them requires people to do some... talking to us...

Just make sure you're around in the following days...
