Hanna (definitely not Montana)

This ain't Hannah Montana for sure!

From Focus Feature Films: "A teenage girl goes out into the world for the first time – and has to battle for her life. Director Joe Wright weaves elements of dark fairy tales into the adventure thriller Hanna, filmed on location in Europe and Morocco."

I'm not sure when this will come my way, (the rest of the world gets this on April 8) but I really want to see it... Starring: Eric Bana & Cate Blanchett (as the villain, she really does make for an awesome villain) and Saoirse Ronan, directed by Joe Wright. Also the fact that the soundtrack for "Hanna" is by The Chemical Brothers makes it even more interesting. The trailer says it all.

Project Research

I am working on a couple of (totally random, like, googling Volvo 240DL images -random) projects, so I've been doing some research and snooping around. I am mainly sinking in deep thoughts about how to approach these projects, since they're mainly mine, and a bit on the experimental side. I just thought I'd share some of the mess.

Sarah Kay: Inspirational Kick!

"It's not just the adage 'write what you know',

it's about gathering up all the knowledge and

experience you've collected up to now, to help

you dive into the things you don't know.-Sarah Kay

I found this when SwissMiss or as I call her: the Queen of Blogging, posted it on her blog.

I couldn't help but repost this. Sarah Kay, a performing poet, just blew my head away! Whether you like poetry or not her two poems in this video "B" and "Hiroshima" will definitely draw you into this fast-paced, yet smoothly-flowing world, which, I imagine, is exactly how 22 year-old Sarah Kay's mind works; and I envy her for that.

Kay, is the founder and co-director of Project V.O.I.C.E. (Vocal Outreach Into Creative Expression); which encourages young people to use spoken word to express themselves and to understand the world and who they are.

Genuinely Inspirational!

Adidas Is All In

This might actually be the most high-profile Adidas campaign ever!!

I mean, Romain Gavras directing it, Justice featuring their brand new single in it, Sid Lee (Montreal) producing it, and a legion of superstars studding the whole thing; this is Adidas's biggest campaign. Among others, David Beckham, Lionel Messi, Katy Perry and B.o.B. are flashing their faces in this 2-minute ad.

Gavras maintained his rough, at times violent and abrupt, style for this piece, while I am almost positive that he had something to do with the fact that Justice lend their new single "Civilization" to be the soundtrack of this production.

Though I like this, I am not going super-crazy about it. What excites me the most is the "advertisement war" that's going to break out between sports brands. I am more than eager to see what Nike will do now!

Obsession Of The Week: Oh Land

Funny how whenever I feel like I'm running low on new music a bunch of new stuff comes my way! A few days ago I was indirectly introduced to Lux Repeat, through their awesome Bartholomäus Traubeck-created video and one day later I literally, out of nowhere, bumped on Oh Land!

Danish singer and producer Nanna Øland Fabricius, is Oh Land. I'm not going to offer a review or anything, but I will say that I want the album NOW (it's released today, Mar 15, in the States). Needless to say I am already blasting the Oh Land EP like a maniac. Sun Of A Gun and Wolf & I are out of this world!

Update: The album is absolutely amazing! I can totally see Oh Land taking over 2011! All the tracks are amazing but Perfection pretty much rules my world right now...

Double Feature (B. Traubeck/Lux Repeat)

Traubeck's PRINCE x OBAMA Shirts

Bartholomäus Traubeck, is a graphic designer/video installation artist who's keeping very very busy, telling from all the things he does. Traubeck has a lot going on: A shirt brand by the name Prince x Obama, a furniture/product design division called  Rhythm, a visual sketchbook and he creates awesome videos and graphics.

from the Avoiding You video

One of his latest videos is an absolutely gorgeous video (at the end of this post) for the Italian, Merano-based electro band Lux Repeat. For this video, Traubeck used Google Earth visuals along with graphics reminiscent of 80s ambitious sci-fi movies. The usage of pixelated and loading overfly snippets from Google Earth is just so appropriate and fitting to this great track by Lux Repeat.

Now the music: Judging from their EP Passing The Light Barrier, I humbly believe that Lux Repeat (a.k.a Martin Retter) is one of those slowly emerging electro acts which have more soul and oomph in their work than most of the "big names" in the electro scene out there. (Plus, I have a soft spot for Italy, so this makes it easier for me to like.) The Lux Repeat latest EP is available to download here once you pay with a Tweet or Facebook status.

#fw | Fall/Winter 11

Superimposed photos from: Rodarte, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Viktor & Rolf | A.Ps.

This past month was a hectic month "embroidered" with fashion; the New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks, unexpected fashion scandals: "Dior vs Galliano" / "Galliano vs the world", the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards and the Oscars.

Truth be told, the awards are not just about the movies/actors/directors and special effect crews anymore. They're also about who wears what, and about the aftermath of the designers' drag race to the carpets. It's interesting to see which designers were adequate enough to penetrate and enter the red carpet realm every year.

Thanks to Twitter (and #nyfw, #lfw, #mfw #pfw hashtags) I got to see more regarding the fashion weeks, than I would probably be able to see should I actually have been there.

Anywho, I am not a fashion correspondent writing about fashion shows and whose line was the "best-est"; I am just fascinated by how resourceful designers can be (and by how surprisingly tasteless others can be). I am not going to review anything specific, or go all fashion savvy and use fancy fashion terms (I don't really know any anyway). I will just stick to saying that Rodarte was a refreshing surprise. While, expectedly, Marc Jacobs turned everything he touched into gold once again this season (quite literally at instances).

What follows may not have been in any of the fashion week shows but I was surely happy to come across these awesome designs by NY-based Setareh Mohtarez, while blog-surfing. Mohtarez creations are distinguished by beautiful structures and amazing prints which coexist and merge in an imposingly impressive manner. I have a feeling we will be seeing more of these in the future...

Typophile's Scrabble

To be honest, I never was a huge fan of Scrabble until I started playing a version of it on the iPhone. Now I must have about 5 ongoing games... I am also reminded of what a sore loser I am... When I lose, that is.

Now if only this was real and available to purchase... Unfortunately it's a concept version of the word game by Andrew Clifford Capener and I am sure that I'm not the only one out there who's wanting lusting over this.

The Thought Police - Ektoise

It's like I'm dreaming via YouTube! Ektoise, which I've featured on MemRants a couple of times, just released the video to the Black Dog Remix of The Thought Police, directed by Sasha Aleksandrov

I dedicated a long rant on how and why I love industrial and construction sites. So seeing this video: a gorgeously crafted time-lapse video of industrial areas and the inside of these factories (pardon my industrial ignorance), rendered me breathless for a while. Kudos to Ektoise & The Black Dog for an awesome track and to Sasha Aeksandrov for an out-of-this-world video. My kind of eye-candy!
