Fall/Winter Fashion Campaigns

It's that time of the year. Actually, it's a bit after that time of the year when all the fashion houses are bombarding us with images, videos, viral teasers and magazine-spread ads for the fall-winter seasons. Some desire the outfits, others crave the accessories, others drool over the models and others (I'm here) just die to see all the photos, concepts, styling ideas and graphic design of the overall campaigns.

Dolce & Gabbana
Now, despite the fact that I'm not a huge Madonna fan (I still think that "Confessions..."  is probably her best album) I find that this campaign, shot by Steven Klein, is amazing. The family theme of the campaign is spot on and works in cohesion with the theme of their last collection "20 years of Sartorialità, Sensualità and Sicilianità".

Miu Miu
Well, Madonna is rubbing elbows with another italian fashion house. The below video was directed by Madonna for Miu Miu.

(thanks to Johnny for the tip)

Gucci Guilty
We've been through the whole film world meets fashion brand chapter here. And below is the full ad (though it's not really that long!).

Directed by Frank Miller. Starring: Chris Evans and Evan Rachel Wood.

Julia's Eyes Trailer

Update: The subtitled trailer has been removed from youtube due to some restrictions. I guess the original (which is edited by far better than subtitled one) will do for now.

Another spanish-language thriller I'm not planning to miss, and I could not resist the urge of posting this. I kinda feel that they're showing too much in this trailer though. (I mean, a 3+ minutes trailer, really?)

Produced by Guillermo del Toro (The Orphanage) and directed by Guillem Morales

Officially released plot of the film: Julia, a woman suffering from a degenerative eye disease, finds her blind twin sister Sara hanged in the basement of her house. Julia decides to investigate what she feels is a murder case, entering a dark world that seems to hide a mysterious presence. As Julia begins to uncover the terrifying truth about her sister’s death, her sight deteriorates further, until a series of unexplained deaths and disappearances cross her path. The film stars Bele?n Rueda and Lluis Homar.

10 Corso Como + Gap

10 Corso Como is one of the hottest art/fashion/shopping places in Milan. Despite the fact that I've only been there a couple of times when I was in Milan, 10 Corso Como is one of the places that remain engrained so very intensely in my mind.

This fall Gap and 10 Corso Como will be launching a collaborative line of t-shirts, sweatshirts and canvas bags with the signature pattern of 10CC as well as prints by Kris Ruhs selected by Carla Sozzani (of the Carla Sozzani Gallery at 10 Corso Como). The line will be available at the Corso Como shop this fall.

On A Lighter Note: "We Gon' Find You"

Before I plunge into a frenzy of fashion-related posts, I thought I should post this.

I stumbled upon the original video from the news a few days ago and I have to confess that I was very amused by "We gon' fiiiind you" (which was also the quote of the day at the office yesterday).

Then I found the track by The Gregory Brothers (A.K.A. Auto Tune The News) and I was blown away. (Really, how many of the singers out there are really singing?) These guys are amazing! I posted one of their Auto tune the news tracks quite a few months ago, and I was aware of how good they are, but this is phenomenal!

Oh, and number three on the iTunes chart!

London 2012: You're Doing It Wrong!

I mean, really, London. We're talking about London; where millions of people went and paid a good amount of money to become educated on the arts and design! So, they get to host the Olympic Games: one of the most important sporting events in the world, during which culture, the arts, sports and the concept of world unity are are entwined, and what do they go and do? Do everything so wrong!

I kinda thought that: London + Olympic Games = Epically Awesome. But no.

First came the crappy logo: So, who had this brilliant idea? Who thought that this formless choppy thing could be the icon of such a gravely important milestone in the history of both the Olympic Games and the city of London?

Then came the dysmorphic mascots: Honestly now, WTF? What on earth were the designers/comity/city of London thinking? And I thought that Phévos and Athená, of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, looked kinda funny. Well, not anymore. These shiny, cyclopic mascots earn the prize of the most annoying Olympic mascots in the history of the Games.

I just hope they manage to pull their act together in the two remaining years.

Missoni F/W 10-11 By Kenneth Anger

One would think that the video below was created by a young and upcoming director/video artist? Yeah, think again, because this short video which is also the Missoni Fall/Winter 2010-2011 advertisement was directed by Kenneth Anger who was born in 1927!

The 83 year-old experimental filmmaker, author and actor, who made his first short film at the tender age of 10, made this eery short film/advertisement for Missoni. I personally find the imagery in this film very reminiscent of previous decades, and I mean in a GOOD way. I guess his age (and experience and the fact that he lived all the trends of the previous decades) is what renders Anger capable of adequately reintroducing these retro-infused visuals in such a today-looking film. The soundtrack comes to complement the overall eeriness of the video!

Frank Miller's Gucci Guilty Trailer

And the luxury brands + film directors + A-list actors love affairs continue. (Remember Marion Cotillard + David Lynch + Dior?)

Frank Miller (Sin City, The Spirit) directed this TV ad / mini film for Gucci's new fragrance GucciGuilty. The full length video will air on August 25th, (anytime now), starring Evan Rachel Wood and Chris Evans and features music by Friendly Fires.

Black Swan

Okay; Natalie Portman + Mila Kunis + Vincent Cassel + Aronofsky's eeriness (Requiem For A Dream) = Black Swan.

I'm a big fan of Portman to begin with and I have to say, I really like Kunis, and then this trailer...  so, I just have to see this film. Out in December.

The 9/11 Museum

I was doing my daily online reading and was specifically gorging on some huge amounts of awesome stuff over at Fast Company's Design Blog, when I bumped on an amazingly put-together first look of The 9/11 Museum.

"In 100 years, there won't be anyone alive that experienced 9/11," says Steven Davis, whose architecture firm, Davis Brody Bond Aedas, is designing the 9/11 Museum. "What will you tell them? And how will you tell them, to make them understand what happened?"

The 9/11 Museum is expected to open on September 11, 2012 and works at ground zero, along with the released mock-up designs have started to give the shape, form, concept and feel of the museum away, which looks very... appropriate, if I may say.

Need to start planning another visit to NY for Fall 2012.

Journalism Warning Labels

I've been working in the media realm and have been interacting with journalists on a daily basis for the past two years; and I can assure you that the media world is sort of a tricky place. Not always because of the (poor, and at times foaming-angry) journalists, but some "higher forces" usually step in the picture.

Anyway, I won't get any more into it, I am obviously no media expert, but these stickers by TomScott made my day (at the office). Now I am tempted to make some adaptations to the local press and go around and plaster most of the publications with them.

Tom Scott says: "It seems a bit strange to me that the media carefully warn about and label any content that involves sex, violence or strong language — but there's no similar labelling system for, say, sloppy journalism and other questionable content. I figured it was time to fix that, so I made some stickers."
