Happy Halloween, The McQueen Way!

I miss Halloween. No, actually I miss the seasonal drinks and bites at Starbucks, and the pumpkin cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory (back when I ate practically everything). Anyway, we don't have either of the aforementioned here. So, I'm just going to post this awesome short by Babette Pauthiere featuring the Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter scarf collection. It's the skull revisited! I like that they keep the skull concept on!

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

I will not get into detail on this Alexander McQueen show currently running at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The fact that this is happening is old-news actually.

I chose to post about this (now) because I was blown away after seeing the pictures of the show, the promotional studio photography of the Selected Objects by Sølve Sundsbø, and the amazing blog the people of the Met set-up for the show. In the Selected Objects section, each piece is presented with an accompanying (many times accurately prophetic) quote from McQueen's interviews over the years.

Also, back to the photography; Sundsbø, or whoever came up with the mannequin concept should be given an award! It couldn't be more eerily appropriate, and perfectly fitting to McQueen's body of work! Giving kudos is clearly something I'm not entitled to do, so I'll just humbly bow.

Alexander McQueen's Last Collection

Okay, I know it's the third post on McQueen in less than two months, but I couldn't just let this go by unnoticed... (top left and bottom left are breathtakingly good!)

The text below and the images above are taken from Guardian.co.uk (more images)

The last ever collection by the fashion designer Alexander McQueen, who died last month aged 40, has been unveiled at Paris fashion week. Jess Cartner-Morleyreports from the presentation, which was attended by a select handful of fashion editors. It was, she said, a catwalk show which served also as memorial service to a truly great designer. The spectacular collection referenced Byzantine art and, poignantly, eternity and angels.

Alexander McQueen - Plato's Atlantis

And while we're on the Alexander McQueen subject, of whose the buzz has unfairly faded, I thought it'd be appropriate to post the video of his final show, Plato's Atlantis Spring/Summer 2010.

I won't go into analyzing and judging something that is way grander than anything I could possibly perceive, I'll just say that his brilliance and genius is something that will be missed.

No eulogies, no rest-in-peace lines, just a celebratory remembrance of a legendary artist.

Alexander McQueen Fall '09 Campaign

Alexander McQueen -> Genius // New Campaign -> Stunning

Patterns + Patterns + (Cracked) Mirrors = More Patterns
If anyone else tried to pull this off, they'd be lost in the polyphony of textures and colors. However, this is brilliant! Also, how amazing is the Pied-de-poule to actual bird pattern?
