iPhone Photography

Some photos I took with my iPhone* over the weekend, the first two are from the rear side of the partially unfinished shopping mall in Limassol-Cyprus, and the third one is from our coffee break by the seashore today.

*CameraBag was used on these photos; it's an iPhone app that enables the use of some pretty cool filters to photos taken with the iPhone. It's $2.99 at the iTunes app store.

Birdy Nam Nam (?!)

Apparently, this french DJ alliance has been around for quite some time now, and apparently, their live shows are the IN sets all over the world. Their name is, obviously, the legendary "Birdy Nam Nam" line from the 1968 film, "The Party". They create their (brilliant) pieces, and live performances, by using samples, loops and sounds from owned albums, and by elaborate vinyl presses and scratches.

I bumped on the video above; which is a teaser trailer of an animated video Will Sweeney (?) is creating for them. Consequently, "Worried" and "The Parachute Ending" are now my new iPhone playlist additions. Oh, I am definitely planning to get more into this Birdy Nam-Madness...

Subsonica

When I went to Italy to begin my studies, back in 2002, Subsonica were one of my first good great encounters with the italian contemporary culture (along with some lighter ones like:Giorgia, Paola & Chiara, Daniele Silvestri, Elisa&Tiromancino). Subsonica are basically an electro-pop-rock band, withelectro being a tad more prominent in their sound. They manage to deliver ominousness even through their more cheerful songs.

For a couple of years I neglected to follow their work (given that I am no longer in Italy and accessibility to italian music here is a bit difficult), but the other day I came across one of their 2007 videos, La Glaciazione (The Freezing). The video, and the song, are drenched in acid sinisterness, well the chorus does scream: "This emptiness will explode" after all...

Good to meet you again Subsonica!
